CommUNITY Events

CommUNITY Events

-Being a part of the community, also means giving back-

How we show up for others reflects in the world around us. To capture this sentiment so beautifully in an image is why we do what we do.  We are proud to support several local non-profit organizations by capturing their live events at a reduced rate or as a professional donation.

The result, when executed well, is being able to produce a high-resolution piece of art worthy of display, which evokes the memory and emotion of the present day throughout your lifetime.

SENIORS & CAP 'N GOWN Sessions

    Maternity Sessions

      Sportraits

You bring the vibes & Let us do the rest

        Fun & Free-Spirited

        The world is my playground.

        Serious & Focused

        All business.

        Simple, yet elegant

        Beauty speaks for itself.

Dark & Moody with a little grain

It's a vibe all to itself.  Not unapproachable, just smart enough to not blindly trust either.

        Peaceful & Unbothered

Lost in my own thoughts, no room for worldly worry.

        Bold with dramatic flare

The world was not created in black and white for a reason.  I am the reason!

        Light & Airy

        The sun warms my soul.

Obstinate, yet still unemployed and living at home

All jokes aside, we know there is a certain population that resists pictures at every opportunity and will make you feel like the blood is literally being drained out of them at the idea of having to pose or smile (do not even consider asking them to show their teeth!).  Challenge accepted!  Not saying it will go perfectly, but it will be perfectly them, which is really all they want to be accepted for anyway.

        Classic, Trendy, Vintage

What Gen should you have been born in?

        Urban or Rural

What makes your heart skip a beat, and what makes your heart feel at home? Do you live for the lights, the busy, the commotion, the buildings and the architecture? Or, do you lie on the grass, walk barefoot in the creek, watch the stars, and consider weeds wildflowers?

        Caption This Photography: About Us

        Our Story

Caption This Photography, LLC, and AdrenalineShots Sports Media Studio is truly a business built on the foundation of family and community.

Meet the Owner & Photographer: Brittany Ottino

For those who don’t know me, I am Brittany Ottino, the owner of Caption This Photography, LLC, and Adrenaline Shots Sports Media Studio.  I am excited to invite you into our studio!

I grew up in Central IL, where I met my husband and high-school sweetheart, Jonathan. After attending college and graduate school, and then living in the far northwest suburbs of Chicago for several years, we decided it was time to move back to Springfield to be closer to family. I always said, “I don’t know if it is the right decision, but I know it’s not the wrong one.” So, with 2 toddlers in tow, that is exactly what we did.

Fast-forward over 15 years later, we now have 3, mostly photogenic, teen/young adults, all of whom have grown up and been very active in the Ball-Chatham School District (GHS classes of 2024, 2026, and 2030). You will see some of their images throughout the website, and you may also see them around the studio or even assisting with a session. So, if my name sounds familiar, but you could not place it, it may have been through my relationships with any number of local organizations (Making Strides for Breast Cancer as a Portrait of Hope Ambassador, Scouts, Chatham YBA, GIS/GMS PTO, Girls on the Run,  and a large amount of sports related activities), or perhaps from the thousands of photos posted for local athletes, cheer, dance, band and flags members, or during community events on Facebook pages and in the local Clarion.

Like many of you, my life tends to revolve around family and friends, caregiving for others, and school events. We use the in-between moments for catching up on yard and housework, traveling (I love the beach, but any trip will do!), spending time on the lake, or finding time for a game or movie night. And, admittedly...I scroll a lot on socials.

I also have a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in public communication and human relations, as well as a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and am a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of IL. So while I spend much of my time behind the camera, rushing to catch the action, mapping out the weekly practice and game or meet schedules, designing and editing, and spending time with family and friends, there is another quieter component to my life. The softer side that often works in silence, is less directive, and resists the hype of attention.  In these moments, you will catch me on Do Not Disturb while I work with individuals, families, or organizations needing a little extra support and time processing the unexpected incidents in life.

        It all begins with FAMILY...

My photography journey: Turning passion into production

Photography has been a passion of mine for over 20 years! My father was a hobby photographer with a talent that would have rivaled many of today's pros. I grew up around cameras, had pictures taken for every holiday, developmental milestone, and special event. I watched my father pose groups for wedding photos, create beautiful albums with my mother when the prints came back, and sort film strips for much of my childhood. I watched him work his magic to create beautiful portrait images and even double exposures before Photoshop ever existed. He captured the important “Moment In Time” for many families and individuals, and this later served to become the name of his own photography business/hobby.

As I had my own children, the importance of having a “good” camera became even more evident, and my passion for capturing all of their lives ignited. I even joked at one point, they probably didn’t recognize me without a camera over my face. Capturing the growth of my children was important to me and always something I found great enjoyment in doing. This period of time also coincided with my full-time practice in psychology and work with both children and adults. At some point, I began to realize that through photography, and the images we capture, history is solidified, memories develop a stable anchor, and details are preserved. In truth, however, how we narrate the image in our mind often becomes the history of it, even if convoluted. And so, the notion of “Caption This Photography” was born: a bridge between the reality of the image, and the caption or memory we desire to put with it. As a clinical psychologist, photography also creates a personal bridge between helping people during their worst of times to heal, recover and build resiliency, and as a Photographer helping them to see themselves as beautifully as others do, or as they wish to be seen, and capturing some of their best moments to become forever memories as well.

        ...and builds with CommUNITY

Community: It takes a village, and what a village we have!

Our studio is located at 221 N Main St in Chatham, IL. Few things relay hometown pride and sense of community more than Friday night lights and a business on Main St., USA, which is why this was the perfect location for a studio created by the community. How so? Years of taking photos for our local sports teams, capturing irreplaceable images of athleticism, grit, determination, victory celebrations, and anguish in defeat, accompanied by bonds that words cannot express, also led to many opportunities to capture other special moments…Senior year, first birthdays, local talent, new relationships, and ongoing friendships.

As requests for photography grew, so did the years, months, and hours of researching and studying both photography and laws surrounding it in greater depth, taking notes on lighting, composure, editing, re-reading manuals, and learning new media platforms. In March 2024, I finally purchased rights to two website domains, thinking maybe I would start a business, but I didn’t tell anyone…just in case. It stayed on my mind though, and each passing season reminded me of what could be, while also reminding me that raising 3 teens and managing an active household was already a full-time job in itself. Add into that, a breast cancer diagnosis in the family, aging parents, and college transitions, and it seemed best to set personal dreams aside until the timing was better.

But, this Village, the one it takes to raise a child (or 3 in my case), has been here and helped us to navigate through it all. So, in reflecting and remembering, in trying to determine what is truly important in life, I was reminded not only of what an honor it has been to capture so many beautiful moments, but also of what the uncertainty of life is and the value of pursuing one’s passions while you are still able to do so. There truly is no "right time," just as there was no "right" decision to move back to Springfield.  Sometimes, you just have to have faith that it is not the wrong time and have confidence that you can make it work!  It was then that plans for something more than a garage set-up became a reality. I knew if I wanted to truly embark on this journey, I needed to do so right here in Chatham, and I needed to do it the right way, by establishing a true business, to fully support our community even more.

With the help of my good friend and realtor, Carrie, in November 2025 we were able to find this space, which became the shell of what Caption This Photography and AdrenalineShots Sports Media Studio would become. After months of planning, building, renovating, ordering materials, expanding equipment to accommodate longer sessions, bigger teams, more environments, and expanded options for customizing sessions in many ways, and testing our design and workflow, we finally reached the goal of opening our doors and launching publicly.

So, to the community that gave me a platform for my passion, feedback and encouragement to grow it into a business, and the space to do so, thank you! In whatever capacity our paths may cross, I hope to see you in person, and through my camera lens soon!

And so the notion of “Caption This Photography” was born: a bridge between the reality of the image and the caption or memory we desire to put with it.

Please visit AdrenalineShots.net for more detailed package options and information.

Absolutely not! Part of what inspired this transition into a photography business has been the overwhelming amount of support and positive feedback from the local community regarding the moments captured and how "priceless" and valued these images are. As a member of the community, and now also a small business owner, Brittany believes in giving back. She has always held a life motto that our talents cannot be considered "gifts" until we share with them others. So, you will continue to see her on the sidelines and moving around events at times. However, it may be less  frequently and with fewer images posted as her availability and time for processing are now shared with other districts and scheduled sessions.

While we love celebrating all of the big moments in life just as much as you do, there are some events that we prefer to be invited to as friends and guests--weddings are at the top of that list.  Given the volume of photographs we typically process for a session, weddings just do not fit into our schedule at the current time.  We are happy to provide engagement sessions, bridal sessions (pre or post-event), or newlywed sessions that capture the bride and groom either pre or post-wedding when it is just the two of them, less time constraints, no large groups to arrange and re-arrange, and no pressure of the full day filled with special events.

As for newborn photography, we are strong believers that safety always comes first.  That being said, our household is often filled with teens, we are in busy gyms and crowded arenas, and interact with a lot of people each week.  In order to reduce the risk of transmitting an illness unknowingly, or introducing an element that could be an unknown allergy, we only take newborn photos when the infant will be held, swaddled, or moved by the parent(s).  We are happy to provide guidance on how to do so, but if you are primarily wanting individual photos of your newborn, rather than family-based, we encourage you to research and then reach out to other photographers who are willing to do so.

Family sessions!  We all love a fun family session, but let's not "kid" ourselves (see what we did with the Dad joke there?), planning for those sessions just was not priority #1...yet.  We anticipate releasing family package information in July for booking dates beginning just after Labor Day and in time for the holidays!

Caption This Photography and AdrenalineShots Sports Media Studio love it when our clients have a vision and inspiration in mind. That being said, there is no guarantee that any image can be replicated as precisely as you may want it. By sharing the image before your session, the Photographer can assess the lighting, angles, backgrounds, colors, props and so forth in the original image and give an honest explanation as to what likely can and cannot be duplicated, as well as what time of day may be most beneficial for re-creating outdoor images. However, and truly more importantly, our question to you will likely be, what draws you to this image and how can we develop something that you will love as much or more than it by adding your own unique attributes and interests?  Because in the end, anyone can follow a trend, why not create your own instead?

At the current time, we are scheduling sessions up to 4 months out. However, our overall number of available sessions each week is limited year-round, which means we absolutely can be fully booked. Limiting the overall number of sessions allows for personal attention to each client's inquiries, design consultations, editing and ordering needs, as well as prompt processing of images. It also allows for greater flexibility when rescheduling outdoor sessions due to poor weather conditions.

Equally important, maintaining fewer scheduled sessions each week enables our photographer to continue supporting our local teams, provide images for our local newspapers, contribute to non-profit organizations for which she has volunteered photography services (American Cancer Society and Special Olympics, for example), and of course, time with family. Brittany also continues to serve and be available as a member of the Sangamon Valley Critical Incident Stress Management Team where she provides volunteer services to First Responders, organizations, schools, and families within her role as a certified team member and clinical psychologist. Within this capacity, her services may be requested throughout Illinois with little notice when critical incidents occur. Flexibility in the studio schedule provides Brittany with the opportunity to schedule these events without interfering with any scheduled photography/media sessions.

Prices and specific details on what exactly is/is not included can be found in PDF documents under each package type on our site's menu options.  In addition, once you decide that you would like to book a session, our Booking Contracts outline even more details regarding your overall session experience.  Prices and package items are non-negotiable, but session image/media customization is to be expected.

In considering the most effective way to build packages that are both client-friendly and represent our studio well, we determined that packages with both, some type of digital and print image(s) at no additional charge, was the best option. Offering digital images aligns with today's world of social media and helps to reduce the risk of copyright infringement by providing some images that can be shared as part of the package. However, we also recognized that so much of the photography world has become digitized that often our greatest works live on a 5"x3" mobile screen. The images we create, the memories you have built, the packages you purchase, are designed to be much greater than this!

These are images that should be present on your walls, through your hallways, and displayed proudly for generations to come. By including the print options, we find that families appreciate being "forced" to choose prints for their homes and those of loved ones, and enjoy seeing the images of these treasured times daily. As a result, we do not offer an option to exchange or substitute print and digital credits, but you can always add-on additional images of either type. Including these products in our initial package prices can also be one reason why our prices sometimes appear higher than what other studios may offer; please be sure to check for print prices or add-ons if you are comparing prices in addition to image quality.

As mentioned in the question above, all of our packages include a combination of print and digital credits.  The credits will not cover all of your images, but you always have the option to purchase additional digital downloads.  Quantity discounts are available, but we do not offer a package that simply provides all digitals.  In large part, this is our because our studio philosophy is not to just shoot pictures and then have someone put the digitals on socials and be done with them.  Our vision is to capture such beautiful images of memories, moments, and important times in life that you want to capture that and print it for display in your home or work spaces for both yourself and others to view, and you can relive those special moments daily-making your financial investment into not only the images, but also a full professional photography session, worthwhile.

So glad you asked!  Once a session is booked, you will receive a confirmation of appointment and then follow-up emails that include guidance on how to prepare for your session in order to make the most of it. Additionally, we invite you to call with any questions, need for clarification, or discussion regarding any special needs or requests.

You will have the ability to preview some of your images straight out of the camera as we take them, particularly for in-studio sessions where a full-size monitor is tethered to the camera for viewing.  With the exception of our largest package options, most image galleries containing edited and/or proof images are processed in less than 10 days.  Depending on your package, you may be able to view these image proof galleries online or come to the studio to go over the images in-person, discuss possible changes to lighting/cropping/tone, etc., and prepare your image order.  In any situation, timeframes are discussed at the time of booking so there should not be any disappointment in delivery date, often only surprise when images may be completed early.

Once your images are delivered to you, you are absolutely welcome to tag us on social media and we hope that you do.

However, we do ask that you do not tag us in generic posts inquiring for photographers that are "budget-friendly...do not cost an arm and a leg, etc."  While this can bring referrals on occasion, we find that most often this type of post is not a genuine search for a custom studio experience or the type of packages that we offer.  And, that is okay!  We are not trying to be a fit for everyone...we believe in delivering exceptional quality to the clients we are able to collaborate with.

        • Cash (in the exact amount due as we do not keep cash on-site for change),
        • Checks (made out to Caption This Photography, $20 returned check fee),
        • Venmo (@CaptionThisPhotography-bottino),
        • Apple and Google Pay through mobile wallet,
        • Credit Card payments (sorry, we do not have a chip reader).

Each package has a non-refundable retainer fee, which not only serves to formally hold the date and make it unavailable to other bookings, but is also used as initial payment for planning, coordination, and preparation for your session. Payment for any remaining balance is due before images are taken.

As our studio is in a shared building with other businesses, we do not allow pets in the studio.  However, if you schedule an on-location session and would like to bring a pet(s), you are welcome to do so as long as it is permitted in that space and they do not pose a risk to others.

One of the rare complaints that we hear, is often regarding the amount of paperwork...page after page after page. Honestly, this is mostly just the Booking contract, which is very detailed and covers just about everything possible, which is in the best interest of both you as a client and our business.

While we try to provide basic summaries of all our forms, the bottom lines are (1) we live in a litigious society unfortunately, and documentation helps to protect both our business and you as a client.  In the event of discrepancies, dissatisfaction, or last-minute changes, there is almost certainly something in our documentation outlining how to handle it, which can help avoid frustration for either party. (2) Caption This Photography is a professional business (LLC) registered with the State of IL, paying taxes, rent and utilities, insurance and for online subscriptions.  Some of our forms are required by the State or other organizations, but most are in place for legal purposes for your protection as much as ours. (3) MOST IMPORTANTLY, In the world of social media, global exposure and transfer of images, electronic footprints, and nothing truly being deleted, wouldn't you rather sign more paperwork for someone taking an image of you or your child than for a car that you will likely get rid of within the next 6 years? Our paperwork helps to outline explicitly what images we can/cannot share with your consent.  It also adds another layer of protection for you, when coupled with our copyright and image ownership, should someone else try to disperse your image without permission.

Absolutely, YES (louder for the people in the back)!!! Copyright is probably one of the least favorite conversations we can have when it comes to our photography studio services. So, let's start by stating, a full Copyright Notice is available both online and printed in the Studio. It is very important that you read it and ask questions before booking a session (remember, the retainer fee is non-refundable).

In today’s world of advancing technologies, widespread access to apps and social media sources, and exploding developments in AI generation, few people are aware of the laws that help protect photography/media businesses, and even many who are aware, neglect to follow them. At Caption This Photography, we understand the desire to share images on social platforms, and with friends and family–we do too!  In fact, we love it when you choose to do so and we want to create images and media that you will be proud to share and show-off to others. Our copyright notice provides you with the guidelines and parameters to do so in a legal manner, which also helps protect the integrity not only of our professional services, but also of our creative work. While oftentimes a Personal Use Agreement is required, this is not always the case, and we are happy to discuss options with you before you even book a session. Bottom line, communication regarding your intentions with your images and goals for your session will help us to coordinate the most appropriate studio package, so you get the most not only out of your session, but also from your images and creative products. As a professional studio and member of the photography community, we believe it is part of our responsibility to help advance our profession and protect not only ourselves, but our colleagues and clients as well.

While we at Caption This Photography truly believe everyone deserves to have pictures that capture some of their greatest moments, memories, and life changes, the truth is that with today’s technology, you absolutely can. If you are looking for a few, basic photos just to share on socials or to “check off the list” of things that need to be done, Caption This Photography and AdrenalineShots Sports Media Studio may not be the best fit for your needs or budget. However, there are a lot of hobbyists and photographers in the area who will likely be able to provide this service for you.

In contrast, when hiring a professional photographer and studio business, you are spending your money on more than just an image, and what makes a full studio experience a luxury goes beyond a quick snap for social media. A full studio experience means creating a vision together, optimizing the elements, and having a professional turn that vision into a reality. It means, hiring someone who will slow down and work with you, who will make sure you are not just satisfied with your images, but that you love them and are proud of them. We do the work to help you feel comfortable in front of the camera and to help the images look natural.

So, what you are paying for is not only experience behind the camera, but also knowledge of how the camera works with the settings and the environment, how lighting works to create different atmospheres and emotions, how posing can impact the image, and for someone who will notice the details. You are paying for someone who can help guide and direct the session in a manner that will deliver the best images and media, especially when you feel stuck, awkward, or unsure of what to do next. You are paying for someone with knowledge of professional editing, and the programs and resources to develop and complete the image in a refined manner.

Our focus is on delivering an experience that captures the personality and tone of your ideal image in a way that reflects this stage of life in a timeless manner that lives on forever. The result, when executed well, is being able to produce a high-resolution piece of art worthy of display, which evokes the memory and emotion of the present day throughout your lifetime.

The short answer is no; one of the components that you are paying for in your package price is professional editing.  Does that mean if I edit myself, I can get a discount?  Also, no.  As part of your design consultation and also during the image reviews for in-person gallery reveals, we will discuss your preferences for tone, color, mood, shadows, etc.  While all of these components will be taken into consideration during your session, some may only be able to be achieved during the editing process, which is one reason why a professional review and edit of images is important.  Furthermore, one of the reasons you opt to hire a professional is because of their expertise and ability to see how changes can impact the overall image.  Ultimately, our goal is to create images that you love and that we are proud to say are part of our work.

And, just for the sake of the profession...RAW files and raw files can mean two very different things when talking about photography. In the world of professional photography, RAW files are a specific type of file with data that has to be processed in order to have what most professional photographers would consider a completed image. On the other hand, raw files used casually are what many consider to just be un-edited jpg type of files; images that are "complete" but not refined per se.  Most professional photographers will not provide either of these as they do not want to release images that do not fully represent their finished works.

While we believe the images speak for themselves, we do not mind sharing that Brittany is not "new" to photography by any means, nor to business...just new to having a dedicated and expansive studio space to help fulfill her vision and passion for photography, which we are looking forward to sharing with you!  Brittany began taking portraits nearly 20 years ago with digital cameras and truly became focused on expanding into sports photography about 7 years ago.  Like many others, she has also spent decades capturing daily life and special moments, developing and adapting her skills along the way. However, much of that was as a hobby or free-of-charge as she was heavily invested in her full-time professional career.

In the last several years, Brittany has spent a great deal of time learning new lighting techniques, improving and updating her knowledge of editing software, and refining her abilities to get maximum potential out of her skills with the camera.  The business development and interpersonal components of photography go hand-in-hand with Brittany's many years of professional experience as a clinical psychologist and administrative roles she has held.  You can read more about this in the "About Us" section.

For those curious or trying to learn more about photography, our photographer uses Nikon for all of her camera bodies (Z9, Z8, and D500 as a back-up); most lenses are Nikkor, Nikon native glass. The majority of our lighting kit is from Westcott.

Central IL is loaded with photographers and seemingly saturated with people offering mini-sessions with digital images every holiday. Some are business professionals who make a living using their creative talent and photography skills, study and improve upon their knowledge and technique, understand laws related to copyrights and professional contracts, maintain liability and equipment insurance, and register their businesses and pay taxes like most other working professionals. Others may be hobbyists who are similar to above, or who just shoot for a little extra cash, enjoy photography, and will give you a deal for the images they provide. At Caption This Photography, we do not look at either of these approaches as better than the other, as both serve a purpose and meet the needs of individuals.  However, we will say that having experience with both of these models, the purposes served and the processes can be quite different.

The mission of Caption This Photography, LLC and Adrenaline Shots Sports Media Studio is not to compete with, nor “steal” business from other photographers. Brittany has always approached life with the notion that if we are all on the same team, then we all win together. So, if you have a photographer who you love and whom provides you with the quality of image you desire at a price you like, please continue to support them and help their business (and our profession) grow. However, if you are not set on a specific photographer, have never experienced a professional session, or if you see something that you are drawn to or read something that resonates with you when reading about our services/viewing our images, please reach out and let’s talk about what we can do for you!  Or, maybe you have a regular photographer for annual photos, but want something different or a full studio experience for a special occasion, that's okay too. We are as confident in our services and personalized business approach, as we are in the quality of the images/media we can produce for you, and we know we can give you the experience you deserve.

In the event you are dissatisfied with any aspect of your experience with Caption This Photography, LLC, or the product(s) you receive, we ask that you first reach out to us and kindly explain the situation and concerns.  We will take note of the concerns, and do our best to review all aspects of it, and get back to you within a reasonable timeframe, at minimum keeping you apprised of the process and where we are at.  Our first line of review, aside from interpersonal concerns, is always documentation, meaning review of emails, text, contracts, informational flyers, etc. possible.  For product dissatisfaction, we will absolutely do our best to rectify the situation, whether that be working with our vendors to replace products, or finding an alternative vendor to remake items; refunds may be offered if a comparable alternative cannot be found or produced in a timely manner.

If there are concerns with the quality of photography images, we will schedule a time to review specific concerns and identify whether those concerns can be corrected, or adjustments can be made.  In the event this is possible, we will also discuss whether those corrections/adjustments  fall into a category of special processing requests (fees are assessed to these), or if it was photographer/studio error or oversight and we likewise want to have those images corrected.  Either way, this will be a collaborative process and our goal is to reach a mutual agreement where you love your final images/media/products, and we feel confident in saying they are ours.

In the event issues cannot be amicably resolved, we will default to our contracts, which outline that any formal disputes shall go through mediation prior to being pursued in courts.  In the event mediation is unsuccessful, disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Sangamon County, Illinois. In addition to agreed upon client fees stated in a Booking Contract and any additional requested and/or signed orders, Caption This Photography and AdrenalineShots Sport Media Studio will request that all attorney fees and revenue from loss of working hours be covered by the client.
